Just off the coast of Cancún lies Isla Mujeres, a serene island where turquoise waves meet gentle breezes and every moment feels like a postcard come to life. It’s one of those rare places where time slows down and every sunrise feels like the start of a new adventure. This travel guide to Isla Mujeres will walk you through everything we loved about this hidden paradise: what to do, where to stay and why it’s become one of our family’s favorite destinations.
Why Visit Isla Mujeres?
Isla Mujeres blends the warmth of Mexican hospitality with the peaceful rhythm of island life. Whether you’re planning your honeymoon, a family escape or just a day away from Cancún’s energy, this island offers the perfect mix of adventure and rest. It has coral reefs to explore, snorkeling spots where you can see straight through 40 feet of water, has an underwater art museum you can snorkel around and you can even swim with whale sharks.

While Isla Mujeres has many amazing beaches to explore, I personally recommend Playa Norte beach as the must visit beach while on the island and is consistently ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. If swimming with whale sharks, dolphins or other marine life isn’t your thing, definitely give snorkeling the coral reefs and underwater museum (MUSA) a try. If you are not familiar, MUSA is a unique underwater sculpture art garden that doubles as an artificial reef.
From sunrise swims to sunset dinners on the sand, Isla Mujeres offers the perfect balance between adventure and relaxation. You’ll find crystal-clear waters, friendly locals and world-class hospitality with a small-town Caribbean charm that makes you feel instantly at home.
Where to Stay
Isla Mujeres offers everything from cozy boutique hotels to luxury beachfront resorts. Families love the comfort of all-inclusive options near Playa Norte, while couples seeking higher end offerings often choose the stunning settings of Mia Reef or Almar Luxury Resort.

Dining & Local Flavor
Isla Mujeres is packed with local eateries, each having their own niche location and ambiance. Unless you are fluent in Spanish, I recommend having a phone with Google Translate installed on it so you can use its offline features to help translate your order. My personal favorites are:
All of these places have exceptional food, amazing views and come highly recommended by fellow travelers.

Faith Reflection: Creation is a reflection of Gods divine nature.
When our family visited this past summer, we stayed at an all-inclusive resort called the Ventus – Marina El Cid in Cancún. We took a luxury all-inclusive catamaran tour which included snorkeling the reef and a day trip to Isla Mujeres. The weather was perfect, the reefs were making a comeback and the seafood delicious. It was one of those trips where every detail fell into place, memories we will cherish forever.
These memories hold a deeper truth, that the stunning beauty of creation is but a reflection of the Creator in all His glory.
Lift up your eyes on high and see:
who created these?
He who brings out their host by number,
calling them all by name;
by the greatness of his might
and because he is strong in power,
not one is missing. — Isaiah 40:26
